Last-minute remote working in Kenya

Sjoerd (Project Lead at SKYNRG) tries to make a nice long trip of 3 to 4 weeks every year, but due to COVID-19, this initially seemed impossible. This remote working trip with CT was the perfect opportunity to make it happen anyway. Curious about how he experienced the trip?

Remote working in Kenya: why?

I try to make a nice long trip of 3 to 4 weeks every year, but due to COVID-19, this initially seemed impossible. This trip with CT was the perfect opportunity to make it happen anyway. Additionally, I’ve been wanting to visit Africa for a while, and Kenya seemed like the ideal first introduction.

Remote working in Kenya: the biggest surprises

Absolutely brilliant! I had decided to join quite spontaneously, so I didn’t have a very clear picture of my expectations. But what a country and what a trip!! I’ve done quite a bit of travelling, but I’ve never seen a city like Nairobi before – there’s so much energy there! All the safaris and weekend trips were also fantastic. Working by the coast is literally paradise. Last but not least, the people really surprised me in a positive way. Our group was really fun and relaxed, and I think some beautiful friendships have been formed. As for the Kenyans themselves: what an incredibly friendly and lovely people! I’ve never felt so welcome in a country, and it’s hard to find anyone without a big smile on their face. The fact that everyone here speaks good English is also very helpful for communication. Remote working and productivity

About the same. In Nairobi, we had fantastic workspaces, and at the Kenyan coast, you can also work well. Plus, the motivation to work efficiently is huge because the adventure or a sunset beer is literally just around the corner!

Remote working trip: all the tips!

Hakuna Matata! Haha, so cliché, but I booked this trip just 3 days in advance, and you really don’t need to worry about a thing: the trip is super well-organised, and the preparations in the Netherlands (PCR test, insurance, and packing) were sorted within 2 days. So, let’s go!
