Madagaskar

Madagascar is a bizarre and magical world of its own. Here, you will come eye-to-eye with ring-tailed lemurs and brightly colored chameleons. You will drive along red dust roads past immense baobab trees. It is a melting pot of spectacular nature and wildlife that you won't find anywhere else on Earth.

Why is Madagascar the perfect country for you as a traveler?

If you long for a destination that puts all your senses on high alert, Madagascar is your match. A place where you will find everything from dense rainforests to otherworldly rock formations. Ninety percent of all flora and fauna cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The culture is an enchanting mix of African traditions, Asian roots, and European influences. This makes Madagascar unlike any other place on Earth.

We left the popular RN7 route behind and took the pristine southeast route. We passed colorful markets, ferry crossings over wild rivers, and remote villages. Here, you drive through a completely different landscape every single day. The road trip itself is actually the main activity. For you, this means that through us, you can dive deeper into the country, far beyond the well-known highlights. Madagascar has its logistical challenges, but thanks to our on-the-ground experience and rock-solid local partners, you will set off safely prepared. Every day here feels like a new expedition - which is why this is for travelers who understand that the journey getting there is at least as legendary as the destination itself. And that is exactly where the magic of Madagascar lies.

Unique experiences

Make your journey extra special by choosing a deep, authentic cultural experience alongside the wildlife and the road trip:

  • During a two-day hike in Isalo, guides Toussaint and Otilo will take you to a sacred mountain peak and a hidden, azure-blue oasis.
  • Guide Victor and his crew will guide you through the dense forest of Anja Park, where you will learn about local mystical plants and curious lemurs.
  • Play a legendary and dusty game of football with Tuwavne and the locals on a rugged field while the sun sets behind the iconic mountain peaks of Tsaranoro.
  • Brave the wooden pontoons during adventurous ferry crossings over wild rivers on the pristine route to the south.
  • In Ranomafana, venture into the rainforest at night in search of nocturnal chameleons and mouse lemurs.
Wildlife without the crowds

Nowhere else in the world do so many extraordinary animals live that you can only find here:

  • Ranomafana National Park: Make your way through the dense rainforest together with spotters to discover the rare golden bamboo lemur and teeny-tiny leaf-tailed geckos.
  • Anja Park: A beautiful, locally managed reserve where nuts and twigs will fly around your ears as you stumble across the playful ring-tailed lemurs.
  • Lemur Park: Located just a stone's throw from the capital; the perfect, quiet warm-up spot to get to know nine different lemur species in complete freedom.
  • Isalo National Park: Spot the Madagascar coucal (the 'Rain bird') and listen to how the calls of the lemurs echo against the gigantic, porous sandstone rock walls.
Who is Madagascar for?

Madagascar is adventurous, but not exclusive - there is a route for every type of traveler:

  • Lovebirds who want to combine wildlife, road-trip romance, and tropical beaches.
  • Groups of friends who love rugged routes, local football matches, and campfires in the valley.
  • Africa travelers looking for something completely different from traditional safaris.
  • Travelers who want to go deeper than the standard highlights and seek true contact with the local culture.
Best time to visit

  • Wildlife and lemur spotting: April to November (dry season); trails are passable, nature is active and visible.
  • Ranomafana and the rainforests: Accessible all year round, but the driest period is from May to October.
  • Isalo and the south: Good to do all year round; avoid the hottest months of December to February if you are planning long hikes.
  • Beaches and Fort Dauphin: Best beach weather in September and October, before the cyclone season starts in April, May, and October.
