Senegal
Our first destination in West Africa - and what a wonderful country it is: charming villages, a rich culture, endless rivers winding through the mangroves, and endless beaches perfect for relaxing.

Why is Senegal the perfect country for you as a traveler?
Senegal isn’t your typical African safari destination, but you immediately feel the country’s unique atmosphere upon arrival. From the hustle and bustle of Dakar to the laid-back jazz vibe in Saint Louis and relaxing on the beaches in the south.
What makes Senegal special for us is, above all, the people. During our pioneering trip to Senegal, we met some amazing people who make it possible for us to offer unique and authentic activities. Everything moves at a leisurely pace, and nothing is a must. Just sit down, have some tea, and chat. Before you know it, an hour has passed, and you’ve gained another whole story. Senegal’s nickname is, after all, the land of “Teranga,” which means hospitality.
For you, that means: The perfect trip through Senegal, completely tailored to what you want. Visit the historic island of Saint Louis for some jazz vibes, go crocodile spotting among the mangroves, kayak at sunrise across the calm waters, or head inland for a safari in Nikolo-Koba National Park.
You don’t go to Senegal to check things off a list, but to enjoy yourself and truly experience the country.
Discover Senegal with our local partners
Together with our partners, we traveled across the entire country, from the far north all the way to the far south. From the border with Mauritania, through Gambia, to the border on the beach in Guinea-Bissau. And this is what it looks like:
Senegal
Use the map and the information to check your favourite places.
- Soak up the culture in Dakar and Saint Louis, and unwind among the mangroves along the Senegal River and on the Atlantic Ocean beach.
- Stroll around Dakar in search of fun souvenirs, visit the African Renaissance Monument, or hop on a boat to visit Île de Gorée.
- Finish your trip in Cap Skirring, where you can take a refreshing dip or cross the border into Guinea-Bissau via the beach.
- Visit our partner Khady at her guesthouse and learn how to prepare the most delicious Senegalese meals or how to play the djembe.
- A fan of culture and jazz? Then you must go to Saint Louis. The former capital of West Africa has many hidden charms.
- Go crocodile spotting around the island of Egueye and climb the 25-meter-tall baobab tree for a view of the entire region.
- At Dangane, unwind completely on one of the riverbanks after a boat trip through the mangroves where you’ll search for fresh oysters.
- Senegal isn’t Kenya or Tanzania when it comes to safaris, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go on a safari here.
- Niokolo-Koba National Park is rugged, vast, and still truly untouched. Here, there are no crowded safari jeeps, just silence, nature, and the feeling that you’ve completely escaped the rest of the world. You’ll spot wildlife along the river and in the savannas, but it’s the tranquility and purity that make this place so special.
- Senegal is perfect for anyone who wants to enjoy nature, tranquility, and water. It’s ideal for families with children, romantic getaways with your partner, or simply a fun road trip with friends.
- Senegal is a great destination to visit all year round.
- Keep in mind that since 96% of the population is Muslim, things are very quiet during Ramadan and not all activities are available then.
Curious to see what that looks like? This is our favorite route.
