Namibia

The land where surreal landscapes and raw wilderness come together. Here, the ocean meets one of the oldest deserts in the world. You’ll also find an incredible amount of wildlife. Welcome to Namibia, located on Africa’s rugged west coast.

Why is Namibia the perfect country for you as a traveler?

Craving peace and wide-open spaces? Then Namibia is your ultimate destination. You can drive for hours here on gravel roads without spotting another single car. Turn off the engine in the middle of the desert and just listen. You’ll hear absolutely nothing but the wind. The landscapes look like one massive, surreal Dalí painting. At night, you’ll sleep under a starry sky that seems to go on forever. By day, you’ll be tracking elephants that somehow manage to survive in the bone-dry sand.

We don't just send you off with a random rental car. We live and work in Africa and drive all our routes ourselves. That’s how we crossed paths with Boesman, aka ‘The Barefoot Legend’. This guy has been walking barefoot through the scorching desert sand his whole life and knows the dunes like the back of his hand. He lives out there with his wife in a simple little house in the middle of the arid wilderness. Don't expect luxury, but do look forward to an ice-cold beer and the best campfire stories. This way, you don’t just travel past Namibia—you step right into it.

Perfect for the whole family too

Namibia is also the ultimate road trip to do with your kids. Picture this: sleeping in a rooftop tent on top of your own 4x4. Gathering firewood together for the campfire while the sun dips behind the red dunes. No iPads or screens, just tracking jackal prints in the sand together. It’s a massive, rugged adventure, yet safe and easy enough to drive entirely on your own.

Discover Namibia with our local partners

In 2019 our founder Charles traveled through this legendary country with nothing more than a 4x4 and a rooftop tent. For three weeks we tore across the sand searching for people who call this unique place home. That’s when we met “The Barefoot Legend”: Boesman.

Watch the video where Charles takes you to Boesman, who runs a remote campsite in the Namib Desert.

Unique experiences

Make your trip to Namibia extra special by choosing active or cultural experiences alongside safari:

  • Our local guide Erick takes you on a tour through Windhoek. He tells you more about the history, a township, and the famous monuments in the city.
  • Boesman invites you to stay at his remote campsite in the Namib desert where he teaches you all about living in the desert and ‘the little 5’.
  • Around every bend of the Orange River, a new stunning viewpoint appears that you can see from your kayak. At night, you sleep in a tent in the wilderness.
  • Together with a guide, you tackle the Waterberg on the way to the massive plateau that makes this mountain so unique. From here the views over the endless Kalahari plains are phenomenal.
  • Climbing the iconic dunes of Sossusvlei is a paradise for adventurers and photographers.
  • The Isabis 4x4 trail is untouched: you cross the mountain landscape with rugged cliffs towards the remote campsite where you camp in complete freedom.
Safari without a crowd

Namibia offers many opportunities to spot extraordinary wildlife; here are our favorites:

  • Etosha National Park: This is the place in Namibia to see special wild animals and discover spectacular landscapes.
  • Damaraland: You should come here if you want to see desert elephants and, with some luck, the rare black rhino.
  • Okonjima Nature Reserve: Wildlife researchers take you out on tracking safaris.
  • Namibian Rhino Conservancy: During a rhino tracking experience, you learn all about conserving the majestic white and black rhino species through the Rhino Momma project.
For whom?

  • Namibia is highly recommended for lovebirds and honeymooners who love adventure and sleeping under the stars in remote places.
  • There is plenty to do and see for families, although keep in mind the longer travel distances for the little ones.
  • Always wanted to travel with your football team, old study friends, or a group of friends? Cross this country in a convoy of 4x4 jeeps.
  • 65+? This country is also very well accessible with more comfort, without losing the adventurous spirit.
Best time to travel

  • May to November: this is the dry season, with blue skies, lots of sun, but cooler temperatures.
  • November to April: the rainy season, it can get very hot here and there are sometimes tropical afternoon showers. Ideal if you want to avoid the crowds.
