Craving peace and wide-open spaces? Then Namibia is your ultimate destination. You can drive for hours here on gravel roads without spotting another single car. Turn off the engine in the middle of the desert and just listen. You’ll hear absolutely nothing but the wind. The landscapes look like one massive, surreal Dalí painting. This guy has been walking barefoot through the scorching desert sand his whole life and knows the dunes like the back of his hand. He lives out there with his wife in a simple little house in the middle of the arid wilderness. Don't expect luxury, but do look forward to an ice-cold beer and the best campfire stories. This way, you don’t just travel past Namibia—you step right into it.

Etosha National Park: This is the place in Namibia to see special wild animals and discover spectacular landscapes.
Damaraland: You should come here if you want to see desert elephants and, with some luck, the rare black rhino.
Okonjima Nature Reserve: Wildlife researchers take you out on tracking safaris.
Namibian Rhino Conservancy: During a rhino tracking experience, you learn all about conserving the majestic white and black rhino species through the Rhino Momma project.

Namibia is highly recommended for lovebirds and honeymooners who love adventure and sleeping under the stars in remote places.
There is plenty to do and see for families, although keep in mind the longer travel distances for the little ones.
Always wanted to travel with your football team, old study friends, or a group of friends? Cross this country in a convoy of 4x4 jeeps.

Best time to travel

May to November: this is the dry season, with blue skies, lots of sun, but cooler temperatures.
November to April: the rainy season, it can get very hot here and there are sometimes tropical afternoon showers. Ideal if you want to avoid the crowds.
