Namibia

The land where surreal landscapes and raw wilderness come together. Here, the ocean meets one of the oldest deserts in the world. You’ll also find an incredible amount of wildlife. Welcome to Namibia, located on Africa’s rugged west coast.

Why is Namibia the perfect country for you as a traveler?

If you crave ultimate peace, vast spaces, and adventure, Namibia is your place. Here you experience what it really feels like to be alone in the wilderness: the desert wind in your hair, silence so loud it’s deafening, and landscapes that resemble one huge surreal Dali painting. Namibia gives you that rare feeling of freedom. You drive along endless roads without traffic. You sleep under a sky with more stars than you’ve ever seen and spot wild animals that have adapted to the harshest terrain.

Our team knows Namibia inside out. It’s not only one of our favorite destinations to explore, but also a country where our travel philosophy comes alive. Our Charlie’s Angels are on the ground and have traveled multiple times through the desert. Here they made friends with local partners and became actively involved in conservation projects. We believe travel should never come at the expense of nature and wildlife, but instead contribute to their preservation.

For you this means: travel with impact and authenticity. Based on our many personal experiences, we can guide you well prepared so you truly get to know Namibia. From the surreal sand dunes to jagged canyons and the wild coastline where the ocean meets desert. And while you enjoy all this, you actively contribute to preserving these special places so future generations can also discover the endless Namibian wilderness. For the traveler who wants to escape the crowds and longs for a country that is both raw and magical, there is no better place than Namibia.

Discover Namibia with our local partners

In 2019 our founder Charles traveled through this legendary country with nothing more than a 4x4 and a rooftop tent. For three weeks we tore across the sand searching for people who call this unique place home. That’s when we met “The Barefoot Legend”: Boesman.

Watch the video where Charles takes you to Boesman, who runs a remote campsite in the Namib Desert.

Unique experiences

Make your trip to Namibia extra special by choosing active or cultural experiences alongside safari:

  • Our local guide Erick takes you on a tour through Windhoek. He tells you more about the history, a township, and the famous monuments in the city.
  • Boesman invites you to stay at his remote campsite in the Namib desert where he teaches you all about living in the desert and ‘the little 5’.
  • Around every bend of the Orange River, a new stunning viewpoint appears that you can see from your kayak. At night, you sleep in a tent in the wilderness.
  • Together with a guide, you tackle the Waterberg on the way to the massive plateau that makes this mountain so unique. From here the views over the endless Kalahari plains are phenomenal.
  • Climbing the iconic dunes of Sossusvlei is a paradise for adventurers and photographers.
  • The Isabis 4x4 trail is untouched: you cross the mountain landscape with rugged cliffs towards the remote campsite where you camp in complete freedom.
Safari without a crowd

Namibia offers many opportunities to spot extraordinary wildlife; here are our favorites:

  • Etosha National Park: This is the place in Namibia to see special wild animals and discover spectacular landscapes.
  • Damaraland: You should come here if you want to see desert elephants and, with some luck, the rare black rhino.
  • Okonjima Nature Reserve: Wildlife researchers take you out on tracking safaris.
  • Namibian Rhino Conservancy: During a rhino tracking experience, you learn all about conserving the majestic white and black rhino species through the Rhino Momma project.
For whom?

  • Namibia is highly recommended for lovebirds and honeymooners who love adventure and sleeping under the stars in remote places.
  • There is plenty to do and see for families, although keep in mind the longer travel distances for the little ones.
  • Always wanted to travel with your football team, old study friends, or a group of friends? Cross this country in a convoy of 4x4 jeeps.
  • 65+? This country is also very well accessible with more comfort, without losing the adventurous spirit.
Best time to travel

  • May to November: this is the dry season, with blue skies, lots of sun, but cooler temperatures.
  • November to April: the rainy season, it can get very hot here and there are sometimes tropical afternoon showers. Ideal if you want to avoid the crowds.

We booked a self-drive tour through Charlie’s Travels that started in Windhoek, Namibia, and ended in Maun, Botswana. The great thing about Charlie’s Travels was that they listened to our needs and exceeded our expectations. For sure, our next self-drive tour in Africa will be through Charlie’s Travels again

We chose Charlie’s Travels because we had quick and good contact with them, we got a good plan right away that appealed to us, it is a Dutch organisation that is on the ground AND they have a good reputation.
