5. Mkomazi National Park

Here, you truly get that 'alone in the world' feeling, with few other Land Cruisers in sight. And it’s not just an incredible park but also the best place to spot rhinos. Additionally, you can visit a sanctuary for wild dogs and rhinos here. Amidst the breathtaking Usambara Mountains, you’ll experience the ultimate 'off-the-beaten-track' adventure without losing the safari vibe.

4. Lake Manyara National Park

This park may be smaller than some others, but don’t let that hold you back! With its vast lake, it’s the perfect spot to see hippos and flamingos in action. Not only do flamingos flutter around here, but also hundreds of other bird species. So, if you’re a bird enthusiast, this is the ultimate place for your safari adventure. It’s also amusing to see how some of these little birds seem to enjoy a free acupuncture session on the backs of elephants. And believe it or not, the elephants seem to quite like it too.

"If you're a bird nerd, this is the ultimate spot for your safari adventure."

3. Ngorongoro Crater

Start with a climb up the crater rim of an ancient volcano, where you'll feel small and humble amidst the impressive nature. When you reach the valley, a world of diversity awaits you: vast grasslands, picturesque swamps, enchanting forests, and shimmering lakes. Not only is the famous Big Five found here, but also the rare black rhino. Keep in mind that you won’t just spot wildlife but also an abundance of safari jeeps, as this park is quite popular.

2. Serengeti

Tanzania’s iconic park simply cannot be left off this list. It might not be exactly off the beaten track, but the Great Migration is undoubtedly a bucket-list experience if you want to get a real taste of Tanzania. Imagine 5 million animals, with half of them suddenly on the move—this fabulous, brutal, and overwhelming spectacle is truly mind-blowing! The park is divided into different areas, but endless grasslands are probably the best way to describe the Serengeti. In fact, its name comes from the Maa language of the Masai, meaning 'endless plains.' In the northern hills, you’ll find picturesque acacia trees, while the Grumeti River lies to the west. You’ll feel right at home among the warthogs and wildebeests. Alongside the lake, there are rocky shores with unique klipspringers, open plains where gnus gallop, and dense areas where lions climb in and out of the trees.

1. Tarangire National Park

Elephants? Thousands of large grazers? You’ll find them here. The Tarangire River, the lifeline of northern Tanzania, flows right through the park, making it the place to be for many animals. The plains are also dotted with baobab trees—the iconic tree with that magical sunset vibe that comes to mind when you think of Africa. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime must-see and, for that reason, our absolute number one!
