Your impact

At Charlie's Travels, we see travelling as both an adventure and a chance to leave the world more beautiful than you found it. How do you do that? By making conscious choices that benefit nature and local communities.

How can you make a positive impact while travelling?

At Charlie's Travels, we see travelling as an adventure and an opportunity to leave the world more beautiful than we found it. How do you do that? By making conscious choices that benefit both nature and local communities.

Your impact begins with your accommodation and transportation: think about choosing eco-lodges or taking train trips when possible – sustainable and an awesome way to truly discover a country. Instead of choosing national parks where 30 cars line up to spot a lion, opt for less visited places where you barely encounter other tourists and can still spot the Big 5. This way, we collectively preserve a livable environment for animals, and by spreading tourism, we keep nature more intact.

Choose Local

Additionally, you directly contribute to the community by choosing local. Because we exclusively collaborate with local entrepreneurs without intermediaries, we ensure that your trip is authentic and unique. But above all, the money you spend on your trip goes directly to the entrepreneur, who can often do beautiful things for the community with it. Think about more school fees for children or installing electricity with solar panels.

While travelling, you can make a difference yourself! Do your shopping at local markets, eat at small, local restaurants, and engage in conversations with the people you meet. Making real connections not only makes your trip unforgettable but also creates a positive effect on the people you encounter.

There are 3 pillars we focus on when talking about making a positive impact. You can make a positive impact in ecological, economic, and social areas. These pillars are explained below.

Ecological

Reduce the footprint of your holiday

  1. Take the train instead of the plane.
  2. Visit ecological accommodations.
  3. Use as little disposable plastic as possible.

Economical

Support and promote local initiatives

  1. Stay in small-scale and local accommodation.
  2. Eat in local restaurants
  3. Make use of local guides.

Social

Protect, show respect and learn to understand people

  1. Really get to know the locals.
  2. Avoid mass tourism.
  3. Be respectful of locals.
