From Mount Kasigau to Diani Beach
After conquering Mt. Kasigau and enjoying a sunny golf experience, the guys definitely deserve some relaxation. Time to hop on the bus and head towards the coast of Diani Beach—because relaxation is also part of an unforgettable friends’ trip to Africa! We’ll depart for
Mombasa, where we’ll take a picturesque ferry before continuing on to our ultimate paradise: Diani. This coastal area is famous for its breathtaking white beaches, surrounded by swaying palm trees. Here, we can unwind and relax for a few days!
Ultimate relaxation in Diani at the Bidi Badu Resort
We’re staying at the Bidi Badu Beach Resort, where we share a villa with a group of mischievous monkeys. With a bar, a volleyball court, a few sunbeds, and other vacationers on the beach, these guys are having an absolute blast. The sand of
Diani Beach is so white that you wouldn’t dare look at it without sunglasses. But with a thick layer of sunscreen on our equally pale bodies, we don’t let that stop us! By the way, it turns out this layer of lotion works perfectly for the ready-to-go masseuses, so that decision was easy: time for some vacation relaxation on this friends’ trip! Once everyone’s fully relaxed, we hop on tuk-tuks and zoom through Diani to buy some souvenirs for the folks back home.
Culture in Diani? Sail on a dhow!
From our beautiful beach, a dhow, a traditional sailing boat, sets off offering tourist boat tours. Although we know it's a typical tourist trap, we can’t resist when a group of charming ladies invites us aboard. And what an excellent decision that turns out to be! It’s truly breathtaking to view the coastline from the water, and before long, the whole experience transforms into a vibrant party on the boat. With refreshing drinks, upbeat music, and daredevils diving off the roof of the boat, we feel like we’re in our twenties again. Though the ladies on board, who actually
were in their twenties, probably have a different opinion on that…
A friends' trip to Africa with Arab influences
Along the coast here, there are several great restaurants located beautifully by the beach, and the mix of African and Arabian influences makes the place feel really special. It’s the perfect spot for a classic night out. We kick off this last part of our friends' trip at 'Forty Thieves,' a restaurant/pool hall/beach bar where we could’ve happily stayed for a week. After this laid-back spot, the group moves on to the more casual bars along the road.
We blend in with the locals at Tandoori Bar, and Shakatak doesn’t disappoint either. For the die-hard night owls, we discovered that our own beach bar was open 24/7, so we had a few more night beers there. Thankfully, the alcohol was soon sweated off by the lack of air conditioning at night, so by morning, we were all ready for another full day (and night) of fun.
