Moshi, the charming town at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro

From Amboseli towards Tanzania

In the Usambara Mountains, I was welcomed and guided by Charles and Olivier, who worked at a timber factory there. Sharing new discoveries with adventurous travellers is what makes my heart race. By now, quite a number of CT travellers have conquered the mountains! We leave Kenya behind. Pioneering, we cross into Tanzania from Amboseli.

At the foot of Kilimanjaro

Before a physical ordeal in the mountains brings the laughing group of men closer together, we gather our courage at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Now that we're just a bike ride away from Moshi, we start the engine and explore this charming town with its African-friendly vibe. This is the starting point for Kilimanjaro climbers and safari-goers.

Everywhere you go, you'll find people on the streets, with plenty of great restaurants and cool bars! Moshi is a cosy town that reminds me a lot of my old hometown Kisumu. Life passes us by as we watch the sunset, sipping a beer by the old railway line with a view of Kili, and at night, we wait forever for our food. TIA (This Is Africa)? For days, we'd seen it from afar, but now we've truly arrived at the foot of the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. In this tropical area, you walk through coffee plantations and rainforests, meeting loads of people from the communities who live and work here.
