Walvis Bay
No idyllic, pearly white beach with swaying palm trees, but nature at its wildest and purest. In Walvis Bay, the dry desert and the wild sea come together!

Walvis Bay
The slightly more southern little brother of Swakopmund. Believe me, it's a real pleasure to drive into after days of desert behind you (especially if you've just come from Fish River Canyon). Finally, a supermarket, ATM, restaurants, and life! Here too, you’ll see typical German influences, like the cosy Wili Probst restaurant with an absurdly extensive menu offering brötchen, spiegeln, bratwurst, schnitzels, and many more gemütliche schmützen. Take a good look around in this little spot – it has some stunning photos of whales on the walls!
Beachy vibes, but without the horror: that’s possible too. The Namibian coast is vast, and not everywhere has that spooky, deserted feeling. Thought we had beautiful dunes in the Netherlands? You need to see the ones in Namibia! Here, you can take your Instagram feed to the next level. In Walvis Bay, the dry desert and wild sea come together, creating stunning pictures. No idyllic, pearly white beach with swaying palm trees, but nature at its wildest and purest.
The Pink Lake
Namibia also has a charming, softer side. And if you're already in the area around Walvis Bay with your camera in hand, don't forget to check out the Pink Lake. Yes, you read that right: this lake is used to produce the sea salt in your kitchen cupboard, which is what gives it that intense pink colour. You can easily drive there yourself, and let your inner photographer have its way.
