Mandatory vaccinations

Tanzania does not require mandatory vaccinations upon entry. However, if you're embarking on a multi-destination trip and not departing from the Netherlands or Belgium, make sure to check the vaccination requirements of your departure country to avoid any hassles along the way.

Below, we've listed some recommended vaccinations.

Recommended vaccination

Of course, there are a few recommended vaccinations. Here’s a list of the vaccinations we recommend for your trip to Tanzania!
  • Yellow Fever
  • DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Polio)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella)
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B

Also, don't forget: Malaria

In Tanzania and on Zanzibar, malaria is present—a disease transmitted by the malaria mosquito. There are four types of these nasty little creatures, which means there are also four types of malaria you can contract. The 'Malaria Tropica' variant is particularly dangerous and, if left untreated, can even be fatal. You can't get vaccinated against the four forms of malaria, but you can take precautions, such as sleeping under a mosquito net and applying DEET to exposed skin. You can also take malaria tablets. There are different types available—travel nurses can help you find the right tablets for you. However, even if you take the tablets, you can still contract malaria. So, if you experience early symptoms (fever, fatigue, headache, and/or muscle pain) during or after a visit to a malaria area, consult a doctor immediately to get a simple malaria test done.
