Madagaskar Travel
Madagascar is a bizarre and magical world of its own. Here, you will come eye-to-eye with ring-tailed lemurs and brightly colored chameleons. You will drive along red dust roads past immense baobab trees. It is a melting pot of spectacular nature and wildlife that you won't find anywhere else on Earth.
Why is Madagascar the perfect country for you as a traveler?
If you long for a destination that puts all your senses on high alert, Madagascar is your match. A place where you will find everything from dense rainforests to otherworldly rock formations. Ninety percent of all flora and fauna cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The culture is an enchanting mix of African traditions, Asian roots, and European influences. This makes Madagascar unlike any other place on Earth.
We left the popular RN7 route behind and took the pristine southeast route. We passed colorful markets, ferry crossings over wild rivers, and remote villages. Here, you drive through a completely different landscape every single day. The road trip itself is actually the main activity. For you, this means that through us, you can dive deeper into the country, far beyond the well-known highlights.
Madagascar has its logistical challenges, but thanks to our on-the-ground experience and rock-solid local partners, you will set off safely prepared. Every day here feels like a new expedition - which is why this is for travelers who understand that the journey getting there is at least as legendary as the destination itself. And that is exactly where the magic of Madagascar lies.
Madagascar: The Eighth Continent
Madagascar feels like a completely different world: from the mystique of its natural landscape to the warmth and hospitality of its people. But what is a trip like this actually like? We set off on a pioneering journey ourselves, together with nine fellow travellers. We bounced across rickety river ferries, slept under the stars and braved a route that is still rarely travelled by tourists. Watch the video here and experience our expedition!

We had a fantastic trip through Namibia with two families with teenagers. The trip was fully planned according to our wishes and tailored to the composition of the group. The personal approach, the communication, the preparation… everything was top-notch. Our next trip to Africa will be with Charlie's Travels again!

We booked our honeymoon to Namibia with this organization, and how fantastic was it? We received clear information beforehand, they used a detailed app, and we received thoughtful messages before and during the trip to check in. Truly an organization with a heart for the mission of showcasing the beauty of Africa. When we looked into the organization further after the trip, we understand why. Thank you for everything! We didn't feel like just a number, received incredibly quick answers to questions before and during the trip, and received a beautiful, customized itinerary where everything was perfectly arranged everywhere on-site. You gave us the trip of a lifetime ❤️ Best regards and see you again! Laura and Arne

I've been to Africa with Charlie's multiple times – Kenya, Uganda, and most recently to Angola: Friendliness and rawness personified, a delightful mix of pure Africa and Portuguese influences. Beautiful, untouched nature, tranquility, and fantastic people. From desert to jungle, from canyons to waves crashing against the rugged coast – what a country. It's wonderful to be taken under Charlie's wing!

Last October, I went on a pioneering trip to Malawi with Charlie's Travels, and it turned out to be a unique experience. The moments that stuck with me the most are the beautiful hike through Nyika National Park, where we camped in the middle of nature and zebras walked past our tent in the morning; and the evening we all dove into a local pub and danced the night away with the locals. The paradisiacal Likoma Island and the car rides through the stunning African landscape, with spontaneous stops at local bars along the way, are also memories that will stay with me for a long time. Malawi is called 'the warm heart of Africa,' and that is exactly how it felt. It was amazing to discover this country with Charlie's Travels and a wonderful group of people. Highly recommended!

It was a fantastic experience to go pioneering in Malawi with Charlie's Travels. Truly the warm heart of Africa, with very friendly and open people. Malawi is a country with so many different things to do. We explored the lesser-known north: hiking in Nyika National Park with stunning views over colorful hills, an exciting boat trip across Lake Malawi, and beach vibes and lots of beautiful birds on Likoma Island. There are also beautiful bays and hidden spots along Lake Malawi. The roads are getting better but offer challenges here and there, which is highly recommended for the more adventurous traveler. The setup and organization by Charlie's Travels were excellent, always flexible and tailored to everyone's wishes.

Our trip through Malawi was truly fantastic. Charlies Travels arranged everything for us down to the last detail. The encounters along the way with the approachable and friendly locals will stay with me forever. Although it is not yet very touristy, the accommodations we visited are truly beautiful and well worth it. If you really want to discover Africa and experience an authentic adventure, Charlies Travels is highly recommended.

We booked our first trip to Africa with Charlies and can recommend them 100%. Our trip to Kenya was unique, especially our stay in the Mount Souswa area. Charlies was always available and made everything possible for us. Not only the customers but also the people who work for Charlies are treated with respect. Thank you, Charlies Travel, we'll be back!

We took a wonderful trip through Uganda with our 15 and 14-year-old kids via Charlie's Travels. Everything was arranged perfectly and the execution was amazing. The communication before and during the trip (thanks Em!) was top-notch, and the trip itself was top-notch: accommodations, activities, food: top-notch! Our driver/guide Zack was the best we could have wished for. Are you going to Uganda? Ask if he can be your driver/guide: a very good driver, calm, friendly, and helpful! We can only speak highly of it and definitely recommend booking an Africa trip through Charlie's Travels. And Uganda is beautiful; we understand why it is called the Pearl of Africa.

The highlights of travel through Madagascar
Use the map and the information to check your favourite places.
Make your journey extra special by choosing a deep, authentic cultural experience alongside the wildlife and the road trip:
- During a two-day hike in Isalo, guides Toussaint and Otilo will take you to a sacred mountain peak and a hidden, azure-blue oasis.
- Guide Victor and his crew will guide you through the dense forest of Anja Park, where you will learn about local mystical plants and curious lemurs.
- Play a legendary and dusty game of football with Tuwavne and the locals on a rugged field while the sun sets behind the iconic mountain peaks of Tsaranoro.
- Brave the wooden pontoons during adventurous ferry crossings over wild rivers on the pristine route to the south.
- In Ranomafana, venture into the rainforest at night in search of nocturnal chameleons and mouse lemurs.
Nowhere else in the world do so many extraordinary animals live that you can only find here:
- Ranomafana National Park: Make your way through the dense rainforest together with spotters to discover the rare golden bamboo lemur and teeny-tiny leaf-tailed geckos.
- Anja Park: A beautiful, locally managed reserve where nuts and twigs will fly around your ears as you stumble across the playful ring-tailed lemurs.
- Lemur Park: Located just a stone's throw from the capital; the perfect, quiet warm-up spot to get to know nine different lemur species in complete freedom.
- Isalo National Park: Spot the Madagascar coucal (the 'Rain bird') and listen to how the calls of the lemurs echo against the gigantic, porous sandstone rock walls.
Madagascar is adventurous, but not exclusive - there is a route for every type of traveler:
- Lovebirds who want to combine wildlife, road-trip romance, and tropical beaches.
- Groups of friends who love rugged routes, local football matches, and campfires in the valley.
- Africa travelers looking for something completely different from traditional safaris.
- Travelers who want to go deeper than the standard highlights and seek true contact with the local culture.
- Wildlife and lemur spotting: April to November (dry season); trails are passable, nature is active and visible.
- Ranomafana and the rainforests: Accessible all year round, but the driest period is from May to October.
- Isalo and the south: Good to do all year round; avoid the hottest months of December to February if you are planning long hikes.
- Beaches and Fort Dauphin: Best beach weather in September and October, before the cyclone season starts in April, May, and October.
