What Does a Mokoro Trip Look Like?

Drifting along the calm water in a hollowed-out canoe, the mokoro, is an experience unlike any other. At first, you might feel a little unsteady, but within minutes, you’ll settle in and fully enjoy the peace and quiet around you. Gradually, the sun emerges from behind the clouds as you glide through tall reeds, serenaded by the gentle whistles of birds. The mokoro, a handcrafted hollowed-out canoe, has been used for centuries as a means of water transport. Don’t worry – you won’t need to paddle yourself! Standing at the back of the canoe is your guide, expertly manoeuvring the boat with a long pole to steer and propel you forward. There’s no noisy motor, just the soothing sound of water rippling as you glide along.

As you journey, you’ll encounter plenty of wildlife: elephants cooling off by the river and crocodiles lurking further afield. If you’re a bird enthusiast, this is your paradise!
