Enduimet Conservancy
In northern Tanzania, deep in Masai land, where tourists are still a rarity and wildlife reigns supreme, three impressive mountains await. Discover the magic of this conservancy not by car, but on the back of a motorbike – an experience like no other.

A new route
Enduimet Conservancy is still relatively unknown among travellers. When someone mentions "Serengeti, Ngorongoro and...," you might immediately think of Kilimanjaro, Tarangire, or Lake Manyara, but Enduimet probably wouldn't come to mind right away. It’s truly off the beaten track! For our Africa Inside Out project, we’ve explored new routes, and Enduimet Conservancy is one of the hidden gems we've included.

Get out of that car!
We wouldn’t be Charlie’s Travels if we didn’t encourage you to get off your lazy bum and experience your safari in a whole new way – not from the comfort of a car, but from the back of a motorbike! Known locally as "piki piki," riding a motorbike with an experienced guide puts you much closer to nature. Plus, you’re way more agile than you would be in a car. If you’re up for it and have a motorcycle licence, you can even drive the bike yourself!
Admittedly, motorcycle safaris can be quite exhausting, especially if you’re riding yourself. Expect dust everywhere and sore muscles in every limb. Our Charlie knows all about it, as seen in the photo above! Naturally, after that kind of adventure, you'll be ready for a relaxing day. But the sense of freedom you experience is unbeatable, and nothing feels more rewarding than a nice shower after a dusty motorbike safari!
Motorbike safari in the park
At the northern tip of Tanzania, just over the border from Kenya, you'll find Enduimet Conservancy. It’s about two and a half to three hours’ drive from Arusha or Moshi. In the afternoon, you’ll hop on the back of the motorbike, and with a ranger, head into the park. The ranger will share insights about the wildlife and, importantly, know exactly what to do when the animals get close. The sense of freedom on the motorbike makes this experience truly unique!
Wildlife and culture
With the wind in your hair, you watch giraffes sauntering alongside you and a herd of elephants approaching in the distance. Along with the ranger, you get closer to this wildlife and capture some stunning, National Geographic-worthy shots! You'll ride through a variety of landscapes: lush green meadows dotted with colourful flowers, desert-like terrain where the dust from your motorbike swirls up (straight into your nostrils), and towering mountains that surround you. On a clear day, you can see the Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, and Longido in the distance! This area is also home to the vibrantly dressed Maasai people. As you ride past the paths that lead to small villages, children run out to wave at you, adding an extra layer of warmth to your adventure.
Stay the night
After a day of fat biking through Enduimet Conservancy, park your bikes and pitch your tent at the ranger station. Here you will enjoy a wildlife camping adventure under the amazing starry sky. The campfire crackles cosily while you share impressive stories with the Masai. An unforgettable night that really brings the wilderness to life!
