Hlane National Park

Mlilwane is perfect to combine with Hlane Royal National Park: a beautiful park home to big game such as lions, giraffes, rhinos, and elephants. You can either drive yourself or go on a safari with an experienced ranger in an open Land Rover!

Hlane Royal National Park

Wildlife, wildlife, and more wildlife! If you're keen to spot big game, this park is the place to be. In the wild wilderness of Hlane Royal National Park, you'll encounter elephants, giraffes, rhinos, and lions. There is no other place in Eswatini (Swaziland) where you’ll find such an abundance of wildlife together! Although it is less crowded compared to other large parks in the area, the richness of its wildlife hasn’t gone unnoticed, especially by the King of Eswatini.

The park is also known as Hlane Royal National Park because King Sobhuza II wanted to preserve it for his people. It was originally a private hunting ground but was opened to the public under his reign. For the King, this land holds great significance. Every year, the Marula Festival is held here in honour of the mighty King, and the Butimba, the royal hunting day, also takes place. On this day, the King and his men hunt with traditional weapons. But don’t worry, there’s still plenty of wildlife left for you to spot!

Pure adventure

In this park, you can easily go on a game drive with your own vehicle, without a guide. But even better is cruising through the wilderness in an open Land Rover, while a professional guide shares fascinating insights about the stunning flora and fauna! With a guide by your side, you'll spot far more animals, and before you know it, you've ticked off four of the Big Five.

If you've already done a long road trip and want to switch things up, consider a mountain bike tour or a nice hike. There's an epic bush trail in this park where you can walk for 1 to 2 days, camping overnight. Tent and sleeping bag on your back, and off you go. Hiking and camping amidst the wild animals—true adventure!
