Chyulu Hills: The hidden gem between Amboseli and Tsavo
Between Amboseli and Tsavo you will find the pristine Chyulu Hills. Volcanic craters, solidified lava flows and amazing views make this region unique. Enjoy breathtaking sunrises and sunsets in this hidden paradise!

Exploring through the Chyulu Hills
At the gate of the Chyulu Hills, Jarid is ready to give you a warm welcome. He will be your tour guide for the next two days, telling you all about this area. While Jarid takes you on a voyage of discovery, we take care of setting up the tents, preparing delicious meals and providing water and wood behind the scenes. So you can fully enjoy yourselves without having to worry about anything! Together with Jarid, you will take a crazy off-the-beaten track route through the park, until you finally reach the campsite on top of a mountain.
The beautifully green Chyulu Hills are in a National Park, where you have a chance of spotting wildlife. However, they hide well among all the greenery, so put on your lucky socks to be sure!
Sundowner Hike in the Chyulu Hills
On arrival at the campsite, you and Jarid will head out into nature for a sundowner hike. The climb can be tough, but the reward is breathtaking views. There are several possible routes, ranging from a short 1-hour hike to a long 4-hour hike. So strap on those hiking boots.

Cultural visit to the Kamba Community
Also on the programme is a visit to the Kamba Community. This community is committed to making the Chyulu Hills more sustainable by, among other things, planting trees and making rope from the Sisal plant. During the visit, you will learn more about their activities and be able to experience for yourself how ropes are made. Jarid, your guide, is the head of this community and will show you around and introduce you to the local members. Depending on your arrival, you will have the option of a guided tour or enjoying a local lunch right away.

Renata's travel story about the Chyulu Hills
A warm welcome by Jared and the Kamba community
Jared, our KWS ranger for the next few days, is waiting for us in Kibwezi. Just for us, he is wearing a brand new uniform! Before entering Chyulu National Park, we make a stop at the Kamba community of which Jared is the chairman. The community awaits us in beautiful, colourful clothes where they welcome us singing and full of energy. This is not a touristy, flattened Masai village, that much is clear. They have clearly thought about our visit, because after a solemn round of introductions, a well-rounded programme awaits us: we learn how they make rock-solid sisal ropes, plant trees together and put our name in their new guest book. You can feel the pride of these people! After a short communal prayer, we are invited for a delicious lunch and then it is time to leave. After all, there is still a long drive through the Chyulu Hills on the schedule.
Wow, what an amazing experience! To be fair, you have to be a go-getter, but trust me: it is the ultimate off-the-beaten-track trip

The caves of the Chyulu Hills
The road to get here is just a bit rougher than the ones through the busier parks. Bumping and bouncing along, we finally reach the caves of the Chyulu Hills. It's pretty special because these are the deepest caves in the world! Exploring the entire tunnel is obviously too much, but you can easily go up to 200m and even as far as 700m! My daughters head into the dark 700m route with Jared and his trusty headlamp, while I prefer to stay above ground
We drive on to the campsite, where we pitch our tents on top of a hill with a stunning view. In no time, a full kitchen setup is magically pulled out of the car. While we soak in the surroundings and go for a little walk with the armed Jared, the locals whip up dinner for us. Everything is fresh and pure – absolutely delicious! Sitting by the campfire, our eyes soon start to close, and we retreat to our tents. Time to not think about wild animals for a bit – the fire and Jared’s presence are enough to feel safe. And to my own surprise, I sleep like a baby.
Going to bed early also means waking up early to catch the sunrise. After a short hike to the top of the hill, we’re greeted with a big breakfast: fresh pancakes, lentils, and, of course, jugs of warm milk for chai or coffee. No one else around, no traffic, just nature and wandering zebras and antelopes. Oh, and at sunrise, we did have to step over a still-steaming leopard poop… Yeah, I think I’ll stick close to Jared!
Charlie's way of traveling
1. Africa is our home
We know it from the farthest corners, and that results in amazing trips. We put them together by venturing out there ourselves. Believe us, you won't find these experiences anywhere else!
2. Local experiences
That means you'll visit local people in their villages and communities. Hike with the Masai, cook with your host family in a homestay, and cast a line with traditional fishermen.
3. You decide
So, what are you in the mood for? We'll custom-tailor the entire trip to your wishes. And you can count on us along the way, even in the middle of the night.
4. Travel responsibly
While you enjoy your dream trip, you'll be contributing to the development of local communities, economies, and the environment. That feels good!
