Masai Mara National park

This gem of Kenya is one of Africa’s most famous parks and a true world wonder thanks to the great migration.

The icon of Kenyan safaris

An endless savanna where nature still rules supreme. That’s what the Masai Mara is all about. The reserve borders Tanzania’s Serengeti, together forming one of the largest continuous ecosystems in East Africa. Here you can spot the Big Five, watch large groups of primates and birds, and experience the most dramatic wildlife event on the continent — the Great Migration, when thousands of wildebeest and zebras cross from the Serengeti into the Mara.

Beyond the wildlife, there’s also so much to learn here. This is the home of the Maasai community, who have lived in harmony with this land for centuries and continue to protect its fragile beauty.

Things to do around the Masai Mara

Besides a classic safari, we’ve got a few lesser known adventures for you that will give your trip a real twist.

Masai Mara National Park

The most famous park in Kenya and the number one reason most travelers visit the country. The Mara River flows right through the heart of it, attracting wildlife from all directions. You can spot the Big Five, rare birds and plenty of other animals. The park is divided into four main regions:

  • Mara Confluence — the heart of the Mara on the east side of the river.
  • Mara Governors — north of the Confluence, made famous by the BBC’s Big Cat Diary filmed here between 1996 and 2010.
  • Mara Triangle — between the Mara River and the Oloololo Escarpment in the west, wild and scenic.
  • Mara Keekorok — central in the Mara, surrounded by several private conservancies that offer exclusive safari experiences.
