The spectacular and green nature paradise of Ghana

The Volta Region is one of the most mountainous and serene areas of Ghana. With its lush rainforests, imposing waterfalls, and welcoming villages, this region offers a delightfully refreshing contrast to the busy cities.

Together with our local partners, we explore the pristine mountain trails and ancient culture, far away from the major tourist flows.

Activities in the Volta Region

Discover the highest mountain peaks, spectacular waterfalls, and special wildlife reserves of the Volta Region together with our local guides.

Climbing Mount Afadjato with Kofi

At 885 meters, Mount Afadjato is officially the highest mountain in Ghana. Together with our local guide Kofi, you will hike to the summit via steep, shaded forest paths. Along the way, Kofi passionately talks about the unique plant species, medicinal herbs, and local myths connected to the forest.

Once at the top, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the vast rainforest and nearby Togo. There are numerous hike options adapted to your fitness level. From the shortest route to the summit to the longest route that starts at 05:00 in the morning, where you climb several mountain peaks and even secretly cross the Togolese border!

Our travel consultant Emiel completed the longest route and emphasizes that a hike with Kofi on Mount Afadjato is the ultimate way to be physically challenged while experiencing the serene tranquility of nature.

Tagbo Falls and Wli Falls exploration with Kofi

Discover two of the most impressive waterfalls in West Africa with our guide Kofi. The walk to the rustic Tagbo Falls leads you through picturesque cocoa plantations and lush valleys.

Then Kofi takes you to the mighty Wli Falls, the highest waterfall in the region, where the water cascades down tens of meters from a gigantic rock wall. In the valley around Wli Falls, you can see thousands of fruit bats nesting against the steep rock walls.

A refreshing dip in the natural pool at the bottom of the valley completes this day trip. We challenge you to visit these places in ''Charlie's Travels style''; by motorbike, of course!

Amedzofe Homestay and climbing Mount Gemi

Amedzofe is the highest village in Ghana and offers refreshing mountain air and spectacular vistas. During your stay at the Amedzofe Homestay, you will be warmly welcomed by our local partner and experience traditional village life in a unique way.

Together with the local guides, you walk to the summit of Mount Gemi, known for the large iron cross that stands on top. The sunset from Mount Gemi, looking out over the misty mountains and the shimmer of Lake Volta in the distance, is one of the most enchanting moments of your trip.

Meeting the sacred Mona monkeys in Tafi Atome

In the dense forest around the village of Tafi Atome, the resident Mona monkeys have been considered sacred by the local population for centuries. Together with our local partner, you will take a quiet walk through the protected reserve.

Because the monkeys are protected by the traditional belief, they are incredibly curious and approachable. Our guide will tell you all about the special relationship between the village and the wildlife reserve.

Emiel tips that Tafi Atome is the perfect example of how local nature conservation and cultural heritage go hand in hand to protect rare animals.
