Expedition in West Kenya

This example trip is designed for travellers who want to experience Kenya beyond the classic safari route. Rather than moving from lodge to lodge, this journey unfolds as a carefully paced expedition through volcanic landscapes, remote valleys, island communities and vibrant towns. You begin in the Rift Valley, where hikes, geothermal activity and wide-open views set the tone.

As the journey continues through Lake Baringo and Western Kenya, you move further away from the familiar image of Kenya. You stay in small lodges, on islands and with local families, experiencing daily life from close up. Only later do you enter the wilderness of the Naboisho Conservancy, where safari takes place on foot, by vehicle and even at night. The trip ends in Nairobi, a city full of energy, creativity and contrast.

This journey is adventurous, immersive and authentic, and is always fully tailored to your pace, interests and comfort level.

16 Days in Kenia

Dag 1

Arrival & Eburru

Upon arrival in Nairobi, you are met and drive towards the Eburru region in the Rift Valley. Along the way, you stop for breakfast and lunch. In the afternoon, you hike up the Eburru volcano, rewarded with panoramic views over the valley. The day ends with a geothermal sauna experience and a Japanese-inspired tempura dinner, cooked over an open fire overlooking the Rift Valley.

Dag 2 - 3

Lake Baringo

You continue north to Lake Baringo. A boat transfer brings you to a remote island lodge, surrounded by water and birdlife. You enjoy a boat safari on the lake and visit Ruko Conservancy, where you take a guided walk and encounter giraffes at eye level. Plenty of time is left to relax and take in the quiet island atmosphere.

Dag 4 - 5

Kerio Valley

A scenic drive takes you down into the Kerio Valley. You stay at a lodge with sweeping views over the valley floor. One day is reserved for relaxation, while the other features a guided hike along a pioneering route developed with a local partner — raw, quiet and far removed from mass tourism.

Dag 6

Kakamega

You arrive in Kakamega, a lively town in Western Kenya. A motorbike city tour offers insight into daily life, followed by lunch in town. Optionally, you can visit Kakamega Forest, Kenya’s last remaining tropical rainforest.

Dag 7

Kakamega Homestay

Today you stay with a local family in the Kakamega countryside. You visit the local market, prepare meals together and spend the evening sharing stories and experiences. A genuine cultural exchange and a meaningful overnight stay.

Dag 8 - 9

Lake Victoria Islands

Via Mbita, you cross Lake Victoria by ferry to Mfangano Island. You explore the island by motorbike, hike to a culturally significant site and experience island life at a slower pace. Later, you continue to Rusinga Island, where you enjoy a sundowner by the lake and a night under the stars.

Dag 10 - 11

Naboisho Conservancy

You travel to the Maasai Mara region and enter the exclusive Naboisho Conservancy. Staying in a mobile tented camp, you experience safari in its purest form: game drives, a guided walking safari and, if desired, a night game drive. Bush dinners and campfire evenings complete the experience.

Dag 12

Narok

After your safari, you drive to Narok for an overnight stay at a sustainability-focused eco lodge. Enjoy a traditional BBQ and learn more about local farming initiatives and community projects.

Dag 13

Nairobi

You return to Nairobi and stay in a centrally located lodge. In the evening, a tuk-tuk pub crawl introduces you to the city’s nightlife, followed by a farewell dinner in town.

Dag 14

Departure

Early morning transfer to the airport for your international departure.
