Quiver Forest

In the south of Namibia lies a remarkable natural phenomenon: a forest of approximately 200 Quiver Trees, situated on large rock formations. The Quiver Tree Forest, also known as the Kokerboom Forest, features trees that are between 200 and 300 years old and was declared a national monument in 1955.

Extraordinary nature

The Quiver Tree is Namibia’s national plant. It features a golden-coloured bark with a rosette of leaves on top, typically reaching around two metres in height, though often smaller. The San people cleverly used these trees to create natural refrigerators by hollowing them out, as the wood remains pleasantly cool.

The Quiver Tree Forest is located 13 kilometres north of Keetmanshoop. This natural wonder comprises over 200 distinct Quiver Trees, offering stunning views as you stroll through at sunrise or sunset. Imagine rock formations shaped by centuries of sand and wind erosion. Alongside the beautiful trees, you’ll also encounter wildlife. Around the forest, there are various campsites and other accommodation options. If you're short on time, it’s also possible to combine a visit to the Quiver Tree Forest with a trip to the Fish River Canyon.
