Lake Jipe
Plenty of fish, birds, and hippos. The fishing boats here have an almost Venetian look, with an African twist, of course! Experience authentic Tanzanian rural life around Lake Jipe and float around in complete tranquillity— you won’t come across any tourists here.

Where is Lake Jipe located?
Lake Jipe: This relatively small and charming lake is located in northern Tanzania, nestled on the border with Kenya. This lush green lake is fed by the Lumi River, which flows down from Mount Kilimanjaro. The southern side of the lake borders the Kilimanjaro region, while the northern shores can only be visited if you happen to be in Kenya’s Tsavo West National Park! The lake is surrounded by dense reeds, where many elephants make their way through to quench their thirst at the water’s edge.

Agricultural lands
Water = life! Nearly everyone living around Lake Jipe depends on the water from the lake. Many people rely on the income from fishing. But the water from the lake is also used to irrigate agricultural lands. Farmers are happy, and we are happy too: Lake Jipe thus forms an incredibly beautiful destination to experience authentic Tanzanian rural life!
The best tilapia!
Kayak through the tall reeds and search for various water birds, hippos, or crocodiles. Fish for your own lunch alongside the Tanzanian locals. You won't get fresher tilapia than that! Combine Lake Jipe with an off-the-beaten-track hike in the Pare Mountains or tackle a more famous mountain range in Tanzania: the Usambara Mountains.
