Ngorongoro Crater

A name you’ll never forget once you’ve been there. Take in the breathtaking view of the crater before descending to explore its vast plains. Will you spot one of the rare black rhinos? Just keep in mind that we don’t only offer safari trips.

A Breathtaking Natural Wonder

An enormous crater with a floor spanning an impressive 260 square kilometres—this is none other than the Ngorongoro Crater, located in northern Tanzania! Once the tallest mountain on the continent, it is now a jaw-dropping natural wonder, and even that might be an understatement. After the volcano erupted and destroyed itself, it took a long time for life to return to this extraordinary place.

Home to 30,000 Animals

The volcanic soil made the area incredibly fertile, allowing vegetation to gradually flourish. This lush growth, combined with the water that collected within the crater, eventually attracted animals. It started with hoofed mammals, large predators, and countless bird species, all of which descended into the crater and decided to stay. Today, the Ngorongoro Crater is home to around 30,000 animals and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.

Northern Safari Circuit

The Ngorongoro Crater is considered one of Tanzania’s top attractions, which means you’re unlikely to escape other safari-goers while you’re here. Despite its vast size, the crater is a magnet for visitors. But rest assured, the stunning scenery is well worth it!

The odds of ticking off the Big Five after just a morning drive are high, and Ngorongoro remains one of the few places where the endangered black rhino can still be found. The conservancy surrounding the crater is also part of the migratory route for wildebeest, zebras, and other wildlife in the north.

It’s a truly unique area! Pair your visit to the Ngorongoro Crater with a trip to the Serengeti, Lake Manyara, Tarangire, or Lake Natron for the ultimate safari experience.
