Lake Nakuru
Known for its flamingos, over 400 bird species and the greatest chance of seeing the black and white rhinoceros! Lake Nakuru is one of the Rift Valley's salt lakes and is surrounded by acacia trees.

Lake Nakuru National Park
This national park surrounds the famous Lake Nakuru. This lake is famous for the thousands of flamingos that regularly build their haunts here. There have even been years when millions were nesting on the shoreline. Although the lake is normally blue, it was pink with poultry!

Hungry Flamingo’s
In recent years, the water level has risen dramatically, reducing the salinity proportionally quite a bit. This meant there was less bread on the table for the poor flamingos and they migrated to Lake Bogoria in droves with growling stomachs. The number of flamingos at Lake Nakuru now varies based on water levels and food supply. On some days, the thousands of flamingos may have shrunk to a few hundred - and vice versa.
Even more wildlife
Apart from all the flamingos, Lake Nakuru has some 400 other bird species and, within Kenya, you have the greatest chance of seeing the black and white rhinoceros in this park. You may also bump into leopards, lions, zebras, buffalos and rhinos during your safari.
