Hluhluwe, Bayala, and Manyoni: a few of our favourite safari parks in South Africa.

We're taking you to the incredible wilderness of South Africa! Think safari, and think Hluhluwe, Bayala, and Manyoni – the ultimate spots where adventure and wildlife collide. Expect the unexpected amidst breathtaking nature.

Buckle up for a wild adventure in South Africa! Think of a fusion of incredible game reserves, all just a stone's throw away from our beloved beaches: Kosi and Sodwana. These are the absolute highlights, where safari and sun come together for the ultimate safari experience.

Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park

Discover the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve, located north of Durban in the enchanting KwaZulu-Natal. Since 1895, this park has been one of South Africa's oldest game reserves. Here, you can expect not only the impressive Big Five, but also other African gems such as cheetahs and African wild dogs. The reserve is world-renowned for its protection of white rhinos – 'Operation Rhino' began here in the 1960s to help these magnificent creatures thrive. Bird lovers will delight in the abundance of birdlife. Explore huts along the rivers to quietly admire wildlife. The pristine iMfolozi section offers a rustic safari experience with winding trails through nature. It's the perfect destination for an authentic safari escape!

Manyoni Private Game Reserve

In addition to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, the magnificent Manyoni Private Game Reserve stands proud. Covering 23,000 hectares, Manyoni is one of the largest private reserves in KwaZulu-Natal. As a private reserve, you can enjoy an extra dose of exclusivity. Rangers guide all safaris, ensuring no private vehicles are allowed. The guides sometimes venture off-road and use their radio systems to increase the chances of spotting the Big Five. For those who love luxury, there are stunning lodges, with the top favourite being Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge. Here, you can enjoy lush views and wildlife spotting from the spacious veranda. An added bonus: the lodge is fully self-sufficient, thanks to solar energy, its own spring water, and meals made from local ingredients. The wilderness in its purest form!

Bayala Game Reserve

Bayala’s expansive and enchanting wilderness, part of a 12,000-hectare private safari area, is a true gem. Located across the road from Manyoni, Bayala is just as rich in experiences. Here, there is a strong focus on conservation and the reintroduction of iconic animals such as the Tusker elephants, rhinos, and cheetahs. The complete Big Five, along with numerous big cats, call this park home. Once again, a guide will take you on an adventure, and the small-scale lodge offers a lovely base for your stay. Bayala’s commitment to conservation and biodiversity, combined with its relative obscurity among tourists, makes it a place that Charlie’s Travels fully supports!
