Dolphin Coast

Are you travelling in South Africa and feel the urge to sip a cold drink with sand between your toes and the sound of the Indian Ocean waves in the background? Dolphin Coast is one of those idyllic destinations where you can do just that!

Dolphin families swimming around

Dolphin Coast, also known as North Coast, lies along the Indian Ocean, near the town of Durban. Dolphin Coast owes its name to... that's right, dolphin families that frequently swim happily along the coast and leap through the crystal-clear waves. But Dolphin Coast is more than just that: miles of sandy beaches, nestled between fruit and sugarcane plantations on one side, and the azure blue Indian Ocean on the other.

What to do in Dolphin Coast?

Along the coast, you'll find several villages: Umhlanga, Ballito, and Salt Rock. What can you expect from these villages? Lots of holiday homes, quite popular with retirees, and green dunes, with modern shopping centres scattered around. What can you do in Dolphin Coast besides waving at dolphins? Are you a true water lover? Along the beaches of Dolphin Coast, there are plenty of surf schools where you can rent a board, run across the beach with your hair flying in the wind, and casually catch the crystal-clear waves. You might even be accompanied by friendly dolphins on your way!

When the wind picks up, it’s also an excellent spot for kitesurfing, or you can enjoy a long, invigorating beach walk across the stunningly beautiful shores. If you're in a more relaxed mood, visit one of the many cafes or bars overlooking the ocean. Not only will you enjoy a refreshing drink, but you’ll also find delicious seafood to lick your fingers clean!
