The Garden Coast
Rugged coastlines in Wilderness, oyster picking in Knysna, wobbling on the suspension bridge in Tsitsikamma National Park, and culinary delights in the trendy Plettenberg Bay. The coastal towns along the Garden Route are, like everywhere in South Africa, incomparable.

Charlie's Garden Route
The Garden Route stretches from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. Along the way, you'll pass countless coastal towns. Our favourites? Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Wilderness, and Tsitsikamma National Park. Okay, these aren't the most undiscovered spots along the Garden Route, but they are incredibly beautiful and different from one another. Something for everyone, right?!

The lush Wilderness
Our first favourite coastal village you pass on the way from Cape Town is Wilderness. From the car, you can see a rugged coastline stretching endlessly. The sea is wild, and the beaches are almost empty, a scene you can often encounter in South Africa if you know where to go—amazing! On the right side of the road, you’ll find a rugged beach, and on the left side, there’s a green, untouched nature reserve: Wilderness National Park. The village is nestled between mountains, dunes, and lakes.
From Wilderness, a 28-kilometre stretch of dunes runs along the coast. The dunes can reach up to 100 metres high—impressive! Some grand, modern houses have been built on these dunes, a few of which also function as bed and breakfasts. Want to wake up with an ocean view? Ask our team about the options.
Wilderness is the perfect stop for adventurous travellers. Wilderness National Park is a protected and beautiful area with rich flora and fauna. It is also known as a wetlands area with lakes and lagoons. Several walking routes have been laid out to explore the park. Keep your eyes peeled as this area is home to the remarkable kingfisher, along with 80 other species of waterfowl. The Touws River flows through this area, and the ideal way to explore the park is by canoe. Drift along the lagoons and take the occasional refreshing dip.
Eating oysters in Knysna
Are you mad about oysters or looking for a bit more hustle and bustle? Further east, you'll reach the town of Knysna (pronounced 'Nais-na'). This is one of the country's favourite holiday towns, so you'll find a vibrant boulevard with plenty of cafés and restaurants serving fresh fish.
This stop along the Garden Route is known for its incredibly delicious oysters. You can taste them at various oyster farms, absolutely delightful! Or hop on a boat and explore Knysna's favourite oyster pots.
Relaxing at a beach café or hiking in Plettenberg Bay.
Plettenberg Bay, also known as Plett, is a charming town along the Garden Route. Over time, it has grown into one of the most well-known stops, with a relaxed, friendly, and hip atmosphere. This spot is frequently used as a holiday destination by Cape Town residents and is about a 6-hour drive from the city.
Not in the mood to relax on the beach or have a drink at a trendy beach bar? Maybe Robberg Nature Reserve is more your style. This incredibly beautiful nature park is located on the Atlantic Ocean. From the walking trails, you might spot whales, dolphins, and seals jumping in the water. Keep your eyes peeled while hiking! The vast beaches and challenging dunes might make the walk a bit tough, but take your time – after all, it's a holiday!
Afterwards, you'll definitely have earned a refreshing drink! The Look Out Deck offers the most stunning view of Plett's crescent-shaped beach. Enjoy the sunset, a cool beverage, and watch the surfers take on the waves.

Our routes
South Africa is, of course, vast and offers countless beautiful places to explore. Take the Garden Route, for example. The most popular coastal route in South Africa. Absolutely impressive, but due to the large number of tourists and because we really want to focus on what we do best, we’ve chosen not to offer this route.
We focus on off the beaten track experiences and routes, away from mass tourism. We want to show our travellers the authentic side of South Africa as much as possible. In South Africa, we choose routes with relatively short travel distances, allowing you to experience safaris, nature, tropical coasts, and mountains all in one go. With a wide range of activities, from unique hikes to beautiful boat trips, from diving to zip-lining and horseback riding, and as the cherry on top, culture too! That's why we've focused on two regions: the truly off the beaten track Western Cape and The Eastern Loop! This way, you can make the most of the beauty that South Africa has to offer.
