Spot the Big Five in the Serengeti

The ultimate place where The Lion King and National Geographic come together. Wherever you look, something is always happening. You’ll drive across the vast plains in search of all kinds of wildlife. Think of zebras, buffalos, giraffes, elephants, rhinos, and an impressive array of big cats.

Safari in Tanzania

When you think of Tanzania, you think of safari. And where better to go on safari than in the Serengeti? Alongside Kruger National Park, the Serengeti is one of the most famous parks in Africa... and Africa is huge! The Serengeti is no exception. With its vast area of over 140,000 square metres, you can easily spend a few days here exploring and taking it all in.

The Great Migration

In the Serengeti, wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles roam around, ensuring they get their daily dose of greenery. The migration is at its most spectacular in July and August when the animals move to the northern part of the park, crossing the border into Kenya’s Masai Mara. To get there, the animals must first cross two challenging rivers. It’s incredible to watch as countless wildebeests suddenly plunge into the river, taking on the battle against nature.

But the Serengeti is not only spectacular during this period. From December to March, most herds are in the southern Serengeti. This is when all the little ones are born—spring fever in the Serengeti, while back in our little frog country, it might be snowing.

An abundance of wildlife

There’s always something to see in the Serengeti. Once you’re among the animals—safely in your Land Cruiser with a guide who knows exactly where the animals are and how they behave—it’s pure enjoyment!

Look to your left, and you’ll see a group of hyenas surrounding a lioness, who may well fear for her prey. On the other side, a zebra innocently drinks from a waterhole while a crocodile lies in wait. Make sure to spend at least one or two nights in the Serengeti to truly take it all in.

Accommodation

If you want the true safari experience, we recommend sleeping in a tent. At night, you’ll hear hyenas laughing and buffalos quietly shuffling through the campsite in search of a green snack. If a tent feels a bit too much (or perhaps too little) for you, there are plenty of other options. Think of a beautiful lodge with soft princess beds and panoramic views over the park.
