Lake Mburo National Park

On safari in Uganda! At Lake Mburo, you’ll get so close that you can almost touch the wild animals... You can explore this slice of nature by bike, on foot, or on horseback.

Where is Lake Mburo?

When you head south-west from Kampala, towards the majority of Uganda's main tourist highlights, you’ll pass a small national park: Lake Mburo National Park. At 370 km², Lake Mburo is Uganda's smallest national park, made up of savannah landscape.

What can you do in Lake Mburo?

Lake Mburo National Park is teeming with wildlife. It may not offer the same wildlife as many of Uganda’s other parks, though. For instance, there’s only one solitary, elderly lion wandering around Lake Mburo, and you won’t encounter elephants or giraffes. However, you’ll certainly come across countless zebras, buffalo, hyenas, jackals, and impalas. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a leopard! Lake Mburo is the only safari park where you can explore on foot, horseback, or by bike because there’s no risk of being eaten by a lion or trampled by an elephant. With your foot on the pedal or perched on horseback, you can get incredibly close to the animals without them running away!

But there's another type of wildlife that makes Lake Mburo interesting: during nature walks, you’ll be able to spot an impressive range of colourful birds, as around 313 different bird species inhabit Lake Mburo. Keep your binoculars handy! Not a fan of our feathered friends? You can take a boat cruise on Lake Mburo and cast a fishing line to reel in some tasty fish from the water. Just be careful not to accidentally hook a hippopotamus or a crocodile!

Where to stay in Lake Mburo?

Lake Mburo is a small national park, so accommodation options are limited. However, within Lake Mburo National Park, you’ll find one of the most beautiful and high-end places to stay in Uganda: Mihingo Lodge. Picture this: a sleek infinity pool where you’re hanging over the edge with a cocktail in hand, all while gazing out at a vast savannah plain, the setting sun casting its golden light over grazing zebras. Sigh… Isn’t that what we all want?
