Brandberg

Welcome to the sacred "fire mountain" of Namibia! In addition to its highest peak, Brandberg offers the unique Brandberg Quartz. During the Mining Experience, you’ll learn all about the mines and the hidden gemstones in this area. It doesn’t get more authentic than this!

Namibia's highest peak

The Brandberg (‘Fire Mountain’) is Namibia’s highest peak, standing an impressive 2,573 metres above sea level. For centuries, this mountain has held sacred significance for the San people. At the foot of the Brandberg, in the Tsisab Gorge, you’ll find over 45,000 ancient rock paintings, including the famous ‘White Lady’. With its orange-red glow at sunrise or sunset, the Brandberg resembles a sea of petrified flames… Hence the name!

Of course, you can explore this impressive mountain and admire the ancient rock paintings. You’ll need to do this with a guide, as they ensure the paintings remain undamaged. Fair enough! It’s a pleasant walk, taking around an hour to reach the ‘White Lady’ painting, and along the way, the guide can tell you all about the area’s flora and fauna. You might also come across signs of wildlife during the walk, such as elephant and leopard droppings. Who knows—you might even spot the animals themselves!

Twyfelfontein

Close to the Brandberg lies a spring surrounded by thousands of rock paintings that would make many museums envious. The 2,500 different rock artworks form one of Africa’s largest and most significant concentrations of rock art and have rightly earned a spot on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Although it’s named after a fountain, there’s hardly any water to be found in this spectacular red sandstone landscape. Hence the name: a fountain—but a bit of a doubtful one!
