A green oasis in Kenya: Gatamaiyu Forest

Gatamaiyu is a green oasis full of waterfalls and wildlife, in the middle of the tea plantations near Nairobi. Hikers and nature lovers can enjoy serene trails and impressive flora and fauna. A perfect stop for your next adventure!

Make your way along the rivers and trees of 'The Forest'

Upon arrival, Anthony will warmly welcome you to his home, where you will meet his wife and children. Time to let us know your choice of lunch: depending on your preference in the morning, ugali, rice or chapati will be served with a tasty goat stew and fresh fruit. Vegetarians can enjoy a delicious stew with rice and vegetables.

Have you met everyone and are you ready for a special hike? You will walk along the Gatamaiyu River for about 3 hours, where you can hear the soothing sound of rippling water from far away. During the hike along narrow paths, where you sometimes have to squeeze between branches and tree trunks, you may not believe it, but this forest is also home to elephants. The proof is in their tracks, which you often encounter on the paths! But don't worry, the guides know exactly when the elephants are around, so you are safe, but it remains an adventurous spectacle if you can see them from a distance. During your walk you will pass two beautiful waterfalls. Don't forget your swimming gear, because a dip in the refreshing water is a must!

Tea plantations

After the forest adventure, you will continue to the breathtaking tea plantations. Anthony will take you on a guided walk, where you will learn all about pruning and processing tea. And as the icing on the cake, you will also discover a waterfall here. Enjoy a warm cup of homemade ‘chai’ while you take in the serene surroundings.

Local Lunch

After all that walking, it's time for a traditional lunch at Anthony's house. If you arrive early, you can even help with the cooking! The cooking is done authentically on a campfire in the barn. Tip: Hold your breath when you help stir the pan! While you enjoy your meal, Anthony will tell you all about the rich history of the Gatamaiyu area and its Kikuyu inhabitants. After lunch, you can relax and continue your journey with renewed energy!
