About Charlie’s Travels

Charlie’s Travels is a travel company offering unique, off-the-beaten-path journeys across Africa. With a commitment to delivering unforgettable travel experiences, we pride ourselves on innovation, authenticity, and an unrelenting focus on quality. We have a team in our office in Nairobi and a team working remotely from South Africa. We’re looking for an Operations Consultant in Maun, Botswana. At the start the job will be a remote, but we’re looking at opening up our brand new Southern Africa hub here at a later stage, from where it will be in the office.

What You’ll Do

As our Operations Consultant, you will play a key role in solving operational challenges, improving the quality of our service offerings, and reinforcing our reputation for good quality service. Your responsibilities will include:

Trip Execution

  • Oversee and ensure smooth execution of trips for Dutch, Belgian, and German clients traveling to Southern Africa
  • Serve as the on-ground point of contact for travelers, handling any unexpected issues quickly and effectively
  • Collaborate with local partners to deliver a service that meets and exceeds client expectations

Partner Management

  • Identify and vet new service providers to ensure high-quality standards.
  • Build a more diverse network of partners, reducing reliance on single suppliers.
  • Negotiate contracts and service-level agreements that align with Charlie’s Travels’ standards (together with the product team)

Quality Control

  • Conduct on-ground inspections of transportation and accommodation providers.
  • Ensure all vehicles meet roadworthy requirements, particularly for self-drive options.
  • Implement processes to consistently deliver the “Charlie’s Experience” to our clients.

Local Expertise & Operations Oversight

  • Act as the primary point of contact for operational issues in Southern Africa
  • Quickly address and resolve any client-facing challenges.
  • Improve internal booking processes for permits, park fees, and other trip elements, reducing errors and delays.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with our operations and sales team to ensure seamless coordination.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to keep itineraries updated and accurate.

Brand Representation

  • Be the local face of Charlie’s Travels, embodying our values of authenticity, creativity, and client-centered service.
  • Maintain a consistent brand presence and uphold our reputation for quality and reliability.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A results-driven individual with strong local knowledge of the tourism industry in Southern Africa
  • Proven experience in operations management, partner relations, or a similar field.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities.
  • A proactive problem-solver who can think strategically while handling day-to-day challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment, staying productive and motivated and communicating effectively with team members across different locations
  • A genuine passion for travel and an alignment with Charlie’s Travels’ mission and values.
  • Fluency in English; additional local languages are a plus.
