We won’t beat around the bush: at Charlie’s Travels, you can certainly book a regular safari. But we can make it truly extraordinary! Imagine a boat safari on Lake Naivasha, a cycling safari in Hell’s Gate National Park, or a walking safari on Crescent Island. If you want to go really off the beaten track, hop on the back of a motorbike with one of our Masai friends, or even better, ride across the savannah yourself! The motorbike safari is just one of the many trips we have developed ourselves.
In your private car, you race across the savannah, and with a bottle of wine in hand, the red-yellow sunset becomes even more special. Upon your return, the campfire is ready for you, and you savor a three-course dinner while hearing the jungle come to life in the distance. Satisfied, you lie in a luxurious safari tent close to your loved one at night, wondering just how well canvas protects against everything you hear in the jungle.
Ultimate relaxation after experiencing adventures can be perfectly done on one of the many beaches along the eastern and southern coasts of the African continent. Instead of being tucked away in a gigantic hotel with a uninspiring buffet, we seek out an unforgettable spot for you. How about a sailboat? Or a delightful villa right on the beach? A chef grilling fresh fish for you on your catamaran? Or perhaps, prefer catching your own food from a traditional dhow boat? Sounds splendid, doesn’t it? Absolutely! It’s time for you to relax and enjoy a tropical paradise with your significant other.
Lounging can wait for later on the beach; first, let’s face the challenge together. Everyone knows the majestic Kilimanjaro: the highest mountain in Africa. But you can also embark on incredible hikes on Mt. Kenya or in the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda. Whether it’s short walks or multi-day hikes, through coffee plantations or to waterfalls, Africa has it all. Meet the locals, hear their unique stories, and get to know a different culture. Together, we’ll figure out what suits you best!
Over the years, Charlie has formed strong friendships with several Masai individuals. Not the ones who meticulously plan their touristy acts, but the real warriors living in the middle of nowhere, pumping water from wells and slaughtering goats. A dinner for two by a campfire with a Masai family will undoubtedly provide a unique perspective on your Dutch luxurious life. Connecting with the locals is something we highly prioritize! By establishing more contact with the people residing in the areas you’re exploring, your journey gains more depth.
We live and work in Nairobi, Kenya, and it’s not without reason! We not only love the country but also see a lot of potential in the East African travel sector. However, the market is still very traditional and doesn’t always contribute positively to the sustainable development of the region. Fortunately, being based in Nairobi gives us the opportunity to do things differently – we want to tap into the untapped potential!

To minimize our ecological footprint, we collaborate with eco-accommodations that operate sustainably and responsibly. One of them is Watamu Treehouse. The entire ‘Eco Tower’ is pleasantly breezy, generating electricity through wind energy.
Along the coast, you’ll find the most beautiful private villas, nestled right on a pristine white sandy beach with azure blue seas. Private attendants and chefs will cater to you throughout the day with cocktails, cold beers, and delightful multi-course meals. A pool right at your doorstep, just in case the sea has receded too far. Depending on your budget and the number of people, we’ll find the most exquisite locations for you!
Camping gear in the trunk, and off you go! We scout out the most beautiful camping spots for you and make sure you have the right equipment. To steer clear of grazing hippos, you can also opt for sleeping safely elevated in a roof tent. Prefer a bit more luxury but still want to stay in the camping spirit? We’ve got glamping for you!
Prefer not to step out of your tent to go to the bathroom while wildlife grazes around you? We select lodges that still provide you with the ultimate safari feeling. Take, for example, Burudika Manyara Lodge. This accommodation is located on the edge of Lake Manyara National Park and features bandas that seamlessly blend into the surroundings. The restaurant is crafted around a Baobab tree! Another exceptional lodge is Simba Farm Lodge: a working farm and lodge with breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Fair Trade Tourism is HOT! Fresh citrus fruits welcome you to this former farm where everything revolves around eco and fair trade. What we take from nature, we must give back, right? This happens in their gigantic gardens full of vegetables and fruits, and also by having a pool that is entirely organic! Addo African Home is located near the Addo Elephant Park. The food from the garden transforms into sublime and honest cuisine with a touch of French elegance. Delicieux… Because, yes, eco is beautiful, but true love goes through the stomach!
AfriCamps is where nature meets luxury…in other words, get ready to glamp! Sure, it’s a little less off the beaten track than we usually like but hey – everyone needs a break from full-on camping now and again. AfriCamps Klein Karoo is located in the middle of the Karoo – be prepared for deep red-coloured dirt roads and the beautiful view of the Swartberg. The tents are all set around a dam often frequented by zebras and kudus.
The team lives and works all over Africa and therefore has a lot of first-hand knowledge and experience.

We tailor each trip based on your wishes and our African knowledge. Everything is possible and nothing is too crazy! Give us a try?
