Tanzania

Tanzania is safari on a world-class level, but it’s also so much more. This is a land of endless plains, tropical beaches and countless hidden gems. Beyond its incredible nature, the vibe is simply amazing: local, authentic and full of life.

Why is Tanzania the perfect country for you as a traveler?

This is Africa at its most beautiful. From the endless plains where wildebeest carve paths through the savanna to tropical beaches where the rhythm of the ocean seems to make time stand still. Of course, we know all the famous parks and classic highlights, but our true strength lies in uncovering those uncommon, peaceful places where travelers can truly unwind. Here, you meet locals and experience the rhythm of Tanzanian life up close.

As Kenya’s neighbor, we know Tanzania like the back of our hand. We cross the border often, always searching for new routes and authentic encounters. Our close connections with local partners allow us to create routes that go far beyond the standard safari circuits.

For you, this means a journey full of freedom and authenticity. Together with the local community, we have developed unique experiences here, such as a hike through the mystical Uluguru Mountains. Or consider a visit to the lively village of Mto wa Mbu, where you can taste, cook and live alongside the locals. Here, you can island hop along the coast, snorkel in crystal clear waters and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere on Pemba, Zanzibar or in the south near Kilwa. Tanzania is the ultimate mix of adventure, nature and culture, just as we have experienced it ourselves.

Discover Tanzania outside the tourist highlights

Chances are you've seen images of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro a hundred times before. But southern Tanzania offers a whole new experience of the country. In this aftermovie, we take you along on our expedition through southern Tanzania. From the Uluguru Mountains and our Kisaki Village Masai homestay to the vast plains of Nyerere. From the green tea fields in Mufindi to the Swahili coast at Kilwa.

Unique experiences

Make your Tanzania trip even more special by combining safari and beach with authentic, off-the-beaten-track experiences:

  • Our partner Raymond will take you on a stunning hike through the Usambara Mountains, where sweeping views alternate with cozy local villages.
  • Discover the green oasis of Morogoro, this bustling town serves as a green gateway to the rest of Tanzania with the impressive Uluguru Mountains.
  • In Mto wa Mbu, you can discover the real Tanzania by cooking and painting with the local community, and a mountain bike tour here is also highly recommended.
  • Ready for even more adventure? Besides Mt. Kilimanjaro, you can also climb the impressive Mt. Meru or Mt. Longido.
  • If you’re looking for an alternative to the crowds and resorts of Zanzibar, head for the white beaches of Tanga, Pangani or Pemba Island.
  • Moshi is the perfect place to get an authentic taste of Tanzanian life. From here, you can visit the Rundugai Hot Springs, the Materuni Waterfall and take a coffee tour.
Safari without a crowd

In addition to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania offers many more opportunities to spot the Big Five without getting stuck in traffic.

  • Nyerere National Park: In Africa's largest protected nature reserve, you can discover wildlife without encountering other tourists.
  • Tarangire National Park: Known for its large elephant population and iconic baobab trees.
  • Mkomazi National Park: A remote park where you can camp and drive yourself, famous for rhinos and wild dogs.
  • Enduimet Conservancy: Why only spot wildlife from a car? Discover the magic of this conservancy by motorbike.
  • Lake Natron: Spot flamingos and hike the nearby active volcano, Ol Doinyo Lengai.
  • Lake Manyara National Park: Hidden between Ngorongoro and the Serengeti, this park is known for its tree-climbing lions and scenic lakeside setting.
Who is it for?

Tanzania is an absolute favorite for travelers of all ages.

  • Zanzibar is malaria-free, making it an ideal destination for families with very young children.
  • For kids between 4 and 18, there’s a ton to do, with activities, travel times and hikes adjusted to their ages.
  • Tanzania is also a romantic hotspot for couples looking to explore together.
  • For groups of friends, Tanzania offers a bit of everything, from gorgeous beaches and beach bars to challenging hikes and breathtaking safaris.
  • And for travelers aged 65+, there’s plenty to enjoy without the journey being too intense.

Susan & Wietze: exploring in Tanzania
With only two weeks of vacation and our sights set on a destination "somewhere in Africa," we started looking for a travel company that could help us with that. We wanted to travel sustainably, to travel a lot with locals and preferably to places with few other tourists. Then we came in contact with Charlie's Travels.... - Susan & Wietze, Tanzania

We had booked a trip to Tanzania with Charlie’s Travels last summer. How we enjoyed! Charlie’s is also highly recommended for off the beaten track baths. Consider a motorcycle safari and an overnight stay in a traditional Tanzanian village. Impressive!
